Good decision-making requires weighing your thoughts and feelings about how to go forward. There are plenty of resources on analyzing decisions, but guidance on using your intuition or gut feeling is much scarcer.
The Intuitive Decision-Making audio exercise helps listeners access their gut feeling about a decision they face. This involves imagining scenarios and then tuning into the emotions and physical sensations that arise. Listeners then consider if one option feels more appealing based on how their bodies respond.
Use this somatic exercise with clients who need support with decision-making. It’s especially helpful for clients who struggle with overthinking at the expense of checking in with how they feel. Remind clients that the exercise doesn’t guarantee they’ll make the “right” decision or experience a certain outcome. Rather, the focus is on using body-based insights to support more holistic decision-making.
