Exploring Values

worksheet

A person's values are the things they believe are most important. They help to determine life priorities, and they influence decision-making. For example, a person who values wealth might prioritize their career, while a person who values family might try to spend more time at home. When a person’s actions do not match their values (e.g. valuing family, but working a lot), they may become discontent.

In the Exploring Values worksheet, clients are asked to explore their own values by looking at the values held by family, other influential people, and society. Because values are so heavily influenced by culture, this activity is an excellent way to learn about one's self. Be sure to further explore any significant differences between the values of a client and their family or society.
